FLOOD BARRIER WALL | 2650 OCEAN PARKWAY

Location Pin

ABB developed this flood barrier berm integrating aesthetics and functionality under the Build It Back program, following Super Storm Sandy. ABB explored various schemes for the wall design and its interaction with site topography and planting palettes, working closely with the client, engineer, and architect to devise a flood protection solution at the entrance of a residential high-rise in the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn. The result incorporates a planted berm over a below-grade flood barrier wall, flanked by a Corten steel retaining wall at the sidewalk entrance to the building, which also functions as a supporting insert for a deployable gate during storm events.
