HUMBOLDT STREET PLAZA

The new ABB designed Humboldt Plaza, located adjacent to the city-owned Moore Street Market, or “La Marqueta de Williamsburg,” creates a public open space that offers market vendors a place to bring goods outdoor for sale. The project, also an ecological asset, captures stormwater runoff on-site to infiltrate it into the ground through lushly vegetated stormwater planters.
The plaza design includes a central seating area with movable tables and chairs, custom-designed benches, pedestrian lighting, decorative pavement, and bicycle racks. ABB worked closely with the artist, Austin Thomas, through the Percent for Art program, to facilitate the materialization of her occupiable sculpture, the permanent public art installation, “Perch” and to site this focal piece of the project.
