LOU LODATI PLAYGROUND & DOG RUN
This project will revitalize approximately 0.8 acres of this 2.2-acre park located along Skillman Avenue in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Queens. Serving as an important community hub for families and residents, the park provides spaces for play, social gathering, and recreation. The project includes a comprehensive redesign of the playground and dog run areas with new pavements and safety surfacing, exciting new playground equipment, water play features, planting, fencing, site furnishings, and pedestrian lighting. The design also preserves healthy mature trees while improving surrounding conditions through selective sidewalk reconstruction and upgraded tree pit treatments.

The design concept was shaped through a community visioning process with local residents and reflects priorities for improved play opportunities, comfortable seating, and upgraded dog run facilities. The reconstructed playground will feature new and more challenging play equipment for ages 2-5 and 5-12, organized around a centrally located spray shower and a multi-purpose synthetic turf space for informal recreation and community gatherings. Expanded seating areas near the public restroom building including picnic tables, café seating, benches, and game tables will support multi-generational use and accommodate the weekly farmers market along the site’s eastern edge. Improvements also include resurfaced dog runs with new gates, amenities, dog-friendly spray features and drinking fountains with dog bowls, as well as upgraded fencing, drinking fountains, and other amenities.
