MANHATTAN DISTRICTS 1/2/5 GREEN ROOFS

Location Pin

When DSNY developed a new building to house three district garages, ABB helped the project achieve LEED Gold Certification. Their design for this approximately 60,000 SF green roof captures and manages 100% of on-site precipitation. It enhances stormwater retention; reduces wastewater by harvesting non‐potable roof water for irrigation; improves thermal performance; and protects the waterproof membrane with an aesthetic planting palette. The variegated vegetal surface creates a foreground landscape to the surrounding urban context. In addition to the green roof, ABB was responsible for the streetscape and exterior site work. Linear planting beds with native grasses and trees maximize sidewalk space in this well-traveled area along the Hudson River, just opposite Hudson River Park.

The multi-story facility in lower Manhattan accommodates over 150 sanitation vehicles. Located in SoHo, this new facility sits across from the Salt Shed, where ABB also contributed streetscape design as part of the Garage project.
