NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN
ABB redesigned the entrance and courtyards of The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory in the NY Botanical Garden to complement the building restoration using a combination of materials to enhance the original Italian Renaissance style of the Conservatory. Initially constructed by Lord and Burnham Co. in 1902, the building provides an entrance to the garden and acts as the setting for special events and exhibits that highlight the connection between plants and culture. The plaza paving, a diagonal pattern bounded by a bluestone border, accents the main and the courtyard entrances, and frames tropical and temperate pools. The courtyard design preserves the pleached Hornbeams and incorporates existing boxwood parterres and other plantings from the Garden’s collection.
