WASHINGTON PARK MASTER PLAN
At the Historic Old Stone House

ABB created its master plan for Washington Park (JJ Byrne Playground), home to the historic Old Stone House, after holding a series of community meetings that provided the basis for the site’s transformation. Drawing on stakeholder inputs, ABB developed a plan for the revitalization of this recreation space that respects the Old Stone House’s rich history, and offers environmentally-sensitive play areas and educational programming. The master plan for the park included an annex to the Old Stone House, a community gathering space, a plaza area with seating, a fruit orchard garden, multiple play areas, an extended farmer’s market, a café/concession, an information kiosk, open and curving pathways, and vegetation throughout.
Located on the border of Park Slope and Gowanus, this site once was occupied by an original Dutch farmstead and was the location of a Revolutionary War battle.
